Weather and Climate of Malta
The climate is Mediterranean (Köppen climate classification Csa), with gentle, rainy winters and warm, arid summertimes. There is no proper thermic inactive season for plants, although plant growth can be held back shortly by irregular cold in winter (plots of land icing might come in midland locales), and summer high temperature and aridity can make flora to wilt. Effectively there are just two seasons, which makes the islands appealing for tourists particularly during the drier months. Nonetheless, heavy currents of air can make Malta feel cold during the spring months.
Water provision presents a problem on Malta, as the summer is both dry and also the time of biggest water consumption, and the winter rainfall often comes as hard showers and flows away to the sea instead of soaking into the soil. Republic of Malta depends on underground stockpiles of fresh water, absorbed through a system of water tunnels called the Ta' Kandja galleries, which average approximately 97 m. beneath surface and expand similar to the spokes of a wheel. In the galleries in Malta's porous limestone, fresh water lies in a lens upon saltwater. More than one-half of the drinkable water of Malta is made by desalinization, which produces additional issues of fossil fuel use and pollution.
In January 2007, International Living selected Malta as the state with the best climate in the world.
Lowest temperature ever registered was in January 1905, at +1.1C, and the peak temperature was +43.8C registered in August 1999. Snow is nearly unheard of, with very few and short snowflurries registered in February 1895, January 1905 and March 1949.
